Donald L. Dunphy

Curriculum and Instruction Specialist

I am a passionate educator. For over 20 years I have had the pleasure of teaching children in grades K thru 6th. Throughout my career my specialization has been in math and science but most recently I have concentrated my teaching in the ever changing world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math).

I have had the privilege of rolling out the Gear Up concept by working with Wayne Nicolette. Together we engage students in solving problems by using the platform of auto racing. Wayne’s racing experience was complemented by bringing the car directly to the students in the classroom. First hand I observed the impact and excitement in each child. Their eyes were bright and their grins were wide. Did they use math? Did they use the problem solving process? Did they collaborate ? Absolutely!

Immediately I knew that I needed to be a part of the venture that Wayne was developing. My experience as a STEAM teacher has taught me a lot about being an effective teacher. When my students are engaged in solving real world problems with hands on activities, they quickly develop the skills that they will use for the rest of their lives no matter what career path they follow.
